It started as a typo.
Someone meant to type “payslip” into Google and typed “payslop”. It did not exist. It should have.
Because that is what most payslips are: slop. Codes like 3030 ASS DEP 1,40% B4507,17, abbreviations nobody explained, a dozen deductions, and one number at the bottom that is smaller than you hoped. Most people check the bottom line and file the rest. Payroll departments are staffed by humans using software written by other humans. Mistakes happen, and they repeat every month until someone notices.
What Payslop does
You upload a payslip. Payslop reads every line, explains it in plain language in the language you choose, looks up the current statutory rules of the country from official sources, rebuilds the path from gross to net, checks each contribution and tax rate, and points at what looks wrong. Then it writes the questions you could send to HR.
Why Luxembourg first, and then everywhere
Luxembourg has about 230,000 cross-border workers from France, Belgium and Germany, each juggling two tax systems, tax classes and the 34-day telework limit. Their payslips are often in a language that is not theirs. That felt like the right place to start, and it is the reason Payslop explains a payslip in your language rather than in the payslip's. Today it covers every country in Europe, the Americas, Australia and New Zealand, with the rules looked up fresh for each one.
What Payslop is not
It is not tax advice, not legal advice, and not a replacement for your accountant. It is a very patient colleague who knows payroll and reads your payslip with you. Treat its red flags as questions, verify them, and then decide.
Privacy, seriously
Payslop was built by someone with a security background, which shows in the boring decisions: files are never written to disk, nothing is stored after the result is produced, identifiers are masked, there are no accounts and no tracking. The privacy notice says exactly what happens to your file, in plain language, because that is kind of the point. Full privacy notice.
